Tecno Phantom 5 and Xiaomi Mi 4c: Their Specifications, Side by Side

With the Mi 4c launched days back and the reports of Xiaomi planning to step into the African market, one would say OEMs in Africa are in for it!

These two companies Tecno and Xiaomi have some things in common.

If anything, they are both Chinese firms – with one focused on Africa and the other Asia.

They are both known for producing android phones but recently started something different – with Tecno releasing the winpad months back and Xiaomi looking to release a laptop in the first or second quarter of next year.

Xiaomi is dominating China while the other – Tecno – is dominating Africa.

Wait:

Let’s pause here for a minute and clear the air first.

On Tecno “dominating” Africa;

Sure a lot of people will find this irrational, but I do not.

Here’s why;

Android one came to Africa just last month, and it came under the hood of the Infinix hot 2.

This device was first launched in Nigeria and it had a very warm reception – c’mon! 5,000 pieces sold in less than 15minutes is laudable.

The hot 2 has also been launched in like 5 other African countries.

So at the moment, you can say that Infinix seems to have locked it down on the continent.

But here’s the kicker:

Infinix mobility is owned by the same company that owns Tecno mobile – Transsion holdings.

I cannot confirm the relationship, but the sure thing is; Transsion holdings – formerly known as Tecno Telecom Limited – runs Tecno, Infinix, and Itel down here in Africa.

So technically, we can say that Tecno is the one presently “running things” in Africa.

I seem to have deviated a lot from the topic at hand, so let’s drive back.

Xiaomi and Tecno.

They have some things in common;

They both just announced new devices;

One launched in Nigeria, the other in China;

But let’s see how the technical details stack up against each other.

Shall we?

In other not to make this comparison “boring”, key specifications which would be looked at are;

– Operating Systems (Who wants old school?)

– The Processors (Speed baby!)

– Internal storage and RAM (Multitasking!)

– Display (“Crystal clear”? Or not!)

– Cameras (“Shoot me in the face will you!”)

– Battery Capacity (More juice baby!)

– Notable Add-ons (Finger print scanner? Fast charge? Bring it on!)

– Price (Ain’t nobody got cash for that!)

So let’s go!

Disclaimer; I haven’t actually held any of the aforementioned devices, this comparison is done based on the specifications released online.

Operating System:

  Tecno Phantom 5 Xiaomi Mi 4c
Operating System Android 5.1 (Lollipop) Android v5.1.1 (Lollipop)

With android M around just few days away, who would wanna be stuck on “obsolete” Lollipop?

Based on previous track records, the Mi 4c will be getting an upgrade to 6.0 – see this.

But will the Phantom?

Since inception, Tecno has not rolled out a “major” upgrade to any of their devices.

But:

TechRez is saying that will not be the case for the Tecno Phantom 5 and Miss Techy also confirmed that her copy of the Phantom received an update OTA – security update.

Time will tell though.

Enough commentary!

See that!?

The comparisons were almost at par until we got to the price!

Could this be because of the “premium” packaging the Tecno Phantom 5 ships in?

Or the finger print scanner?

Perhaps the soft flash in front for selfies and “wefies” (thanks to Pascal of NTG for that term)?

You’ve seen it, process it and speak.
