Tecno W5 is coming!
Who better tell you about the specifications of the device than me?
Well, it’s still 50% speculations and 50% facts, but so far here’s what you should know about the new device in the Tecno “W” family of devices:
Tecno W5 Device Details
The Tecno W4 (its predecessor) was Tecno’s first android marshmallow device in the market and folks welcomed the device with open arms.
How would people receive this one?
Network
This would probably be the biggest selling point for the new device.
Why?
LTE!
With every network work provider (except Airtel) migrating to 4G LTE, it makes total sense that the Tecno W5 launches with LTE support.
This way, it can be a good option when shopping for cheap 4G LTE enabled smartphones in the country.
2G | GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 |
3G | HSDPA 900 /1900/ 2100 |
4G | LTE 3(1800) / 7(2600) / 20(800) |
SIM Count | Dual SIM |
Body
No concrete word on this just yet.

Display
But why the hell did Tecno increase the display size of the W5!
Do 5.5-inch devices sell better?
I find devices with large displays (anything above 5.0-inch) rather displeasing. I don’t know, most of the time, I just can not seem to handle the device properly on one hand.
Size | 5.5 inches |
Type | IPS Touch Display |
Resolution | 720 x 1280 pixels (267 PPI) |

Operating System
You weren’t expecting Android 7.0, were you?
Yeah, we both know Tecno is EXTREMELY slow in incorporating the latest android OS in any of their devices.
Tecno W5 would ship with Android Marshmallow, through Tecno’s HiOS of course.
Platform | Android v6.0 (Marshmallow) |
Processor
The exact SoC within the chassis of the W5 is unknown at the moment, but the sure thing is, it was made by MediaTek.
This device is a 1.3GHz quad-core device (yet another one), so, so much shouldn’t be expected from the device.
Chipset | – |
CPU | 1.3GHz Quad-core processor |
GPU | Mali T720 |
Camera
Specifications say the rear facing camera of the new device is 13MP. But if you’ve been around for a while and have been breathing the air I’m breathing, you should know that MegaPixels never translate to true life quality.
I mean, the Samsung Galaxy S7 and Google’s Pixel have 12MP and 12.3MP respectively, and they are both among the best camera phones of 2016.
Infinix Zero 3‘s camera was a whopping 20.7MP, and it wasn’t even numbered 50 on the list. Hell, it was not even on the list! 😛

Memory
Ok, right here, 90% of folks who know what RAM means (and does) would be mad.
More RAM = Fluid multitasking. But I’m afraid that wouldn’t be so on the W5.
We should, however, wait for real world tests before concluding on this.

At 3000mAh, one charge should carry you through a full day on moderate usage.

Pricing
For now, no word on that, but it should retail for anything between ₦35,000 and ₦40,000 (I’m speculating).
