Almost a month after the Infinix Hot 3 teaser by the Infinix mobility team on twitter, details about the company’s next device in the low budget hot series have started coming in.
Infinix Hot 3/Hot 3 Pro
Form Factor & Design
From the Images online and on Jumia’s site, It is very evident that the Infinix hot 3 has broken away from the “box design” as seen on several other Infinix products (like all the zero smartphones and the Infinix hot 2).
By “box design”, I mean the square edges present on those phones listed above – to be honest, I hated that. However, the hot 3 comes with curved edges like that of the Infinix hot note.
In fact, looking at the front of the device, it looks very much like the hot note; with re-introduction of physical navigation buttons and the increase in screen size (from 5 – 5.5 inches).
Display
As stated above, Infinix mobility moved away from the “easy to hold in hand” 5-inch screen on the hot 2 and opted for 5.5-inches for this device – I am still wondering why.
At the moment, I cannot confirm the kind of display used for the hot 3 and its resolution, but one thing is certain; the screen has no protection whatsoever so I guess its tempered glass to the rescue.
Regarding the screen resolution, I am sure the Infinix hot 3’s should be 720 x 1280 pixels hence a pixel density of 267. Anything less than that would be totally unreasonable. – Yup! This has been confirmed and they did not disappoint.
Cameras
It seems to me Infinix paid more attention to the cameras on this device than improving overall device specifications – even the teaser image flying around the internet was about the device being “selfie-friendly”.
For the front facing camera, Infinix stuck with a 2mp shooter with an 84degree wide angle shooting range. The front/selfie camera also benefits from a “soft flash” (first in the hot series) which illuminates photos when shooting in low light conditions.
The back camera is nothing we’ve not seen before. Going for Omnivision’s OV8865 sensor, the Infinix hot 3 has an 8mp back shooter which is capable of capturing 1080p videos at 30 frames per second (fps) or 720p at 60 fps. The camera chip to me is quite old (launched almost 3 years ago).
Notable camera features include:
- Focus tracking
- Voice recognition (say “capture” or “cheese” to snap)
- Timed photos
- Smile recognition
- Gesture recognition
Processor
Who else would produce Infinix’s chipset if not MediaTek 😛
Utilizing the same chipset found in Asus Zenfone Go, Doogee X6, Gionee M5 mini, Wiko Lenny 2 and Umi Rome X – MediaTek MT6580 – the Infinix hot 3 is a quad-core device with processing speed clocked at 1.3GHz. This chipset is a 32bit chipset which could be a turn-off for most techie buyers.
Other than being 32bit, the SOC is good – most devices running on it have really nice reviews and feedback from users.
Memory
Internal memory is 16GB (It has never gone above that) with SD card support up to 32GB and RAM is 1GB/2GB. This means that like its predecessor, the Infinix hot 3 will ship in two variants – 1GB RAM and 2GB RAM)
Battery
Finally, down to the part which could make or mar the device for Nigerians – the battery.
Infinix went up from 2,400mAh on the Hot 2 to 3,000mAh for this device. It’s huge, right?
Nah, it isn’t.
When you consider the fact that this device has a larger screen than its predecessor, the battery would be just “average”. Infinix promises 9 hours of web browsing, but real life tests could be an hour or two less.
The hot 3 has OTG support, hence, can serve as a power source for other devices as it provides 1A reverse charging.
